Need Something to Do? 20 great ideas.

We are in the Dog Days of Summer and trying to stay cool.  If you’re looking for  something to do in the Deep Delta, we’ve compiled a list of free (or almost free) things to do. Many of these suggestions involve riding in your car (with the air conditioning on) or being inside, so get out and have fun but Stay cool!butterflies on the roadCarved Bears

  1. Visit the Rolling Fork Visitor Center and Museum
  2. Go on a Carved Bear Hunt through the streets of Rolling Fork
  3. Relax at the Muddy Waters Plaza and Blues Cabin and or Gazebo
  4. Drive the Steele’s Bayou Expedition Tour – directions available at Visitor Center
  5. Walk or Run the Bear Track at the Sharkey Issaquena Hospital
  6. Stop by any of the parts or implement places and drink coffee with the locals
  7. View area Indian Mounds
  8. Go over the Levee at Mayersville to watch for barges the Mississippi River
  9. Wildlife watch in Delta National Forest
  10. Enjoy the Butterfly Garden in Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge or drive out to Delta National Forest and see if the butterflies are out
  11. Enjoy the water or watersports on Lake Washington
  12. View the historical homes around Lake Washington
  13. Rock on the Porch at the Onward Store
  14. View the murals on Elm Street and Hicks Avenue
  15. Visit the Sharkey Issaquena Library to learn the history of the Teddy Bear or listen to the Blues
  16. Visit the Sharkey County Courthouse and see the Steele’s Bayou Civil War Diorama and Red Barn Replica
  17. Drive past Mont Helena on old Highway 61 for a spectacular view
  18. Check out the historic footbridges across Deer Creek and Rolling Fork Creek
  19. Drive along Deer Creek in Anguilla and feed the ducks
  20. Go to geocaching.com and search for geocaches in the area – we know there are some!
