Agriculture is the #1 Industry in the state of Mississippi employing approximately 17.4 % of the state’s workforce either directly or indirectly. Agriculture makes a significant impact to all 82 counties and in Sharkey and Issaquena counties it is the number one industry and employer. Each year, our economy rises and falls with the price of commodities. Most industries in this area are ag related. Mississippi is a top producer of corn, soybeans, catfish, cotton, and rice, all commodities that are grown and raised in our Sharkey Issaquena area.
As we enter harvest season, Lower Delta Partnership wants to salute all the family farms in our community and thank them for the jobs they do. We honor the hard work, long hours, and commitment of our farmers, their families, and all those who work alongside them. Your dedication sustains our communities. Thank you for the sacrifices you make and the important role you play in the life of the Mississippi Delta.
We also want to recognize all the businesses that support agriculture – the implement dealers, the repair shops, the chemical and seed businesses, the entomologists, the grain elevators, haulers, flying services, parts shops, insurance folks, bankers, consultants and everyone else that helps farmers stay in the field when they need to and produce the best crop possible.
