Lake Washington 2-Day Fishing

September 22, 2014

Lake WashingtonLocated in southern Washington County, Lake Washington lies between Highway 1 and the Mississippi River. Your trip to fish Lake Washington begins with a reservation at Roy’s Cabins or Southern Star RV Park and Bait-n-Things. No boat rentals are available, so bring your own!

Travel 20 minutes on Highway 1 south from Greenville, MS,turn toward Chatham, MS at the Roy’s Store Sign. Whether you brought your RV or rented a cabin, you’ll need to check in at Roy’s Store or Southern Star. Fishing Supplies, licenses, bait and snacks are also available here. For Dinner you may travel further south on Highway 1 to Grace, Mississippi and eat at Big Fella’s where the menu offers a range from hamburgers to salads to steaks. (Big Fella’s is only open Th, F, and Sat evenings)

Day 1
You’ll want to get up early and hit the lake! Nine miles long, 1 1/4 miles wide, and up to 20 feet deep, Lake Washington has catered to the needs of anglers since 1950; bass, crappie, catfish, and bream are plentiful year-round. Breakfast and Lunch are both available at Roy’s store.

In the afternoon, take a break from fishing and visit nearby Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge to view alligators, songbirds and hike the nature trails at the refuge.

At dinnertime, you have choices! You may go to Greenville or Rolling Fork. In Greenville we recommend you visit world famous Does Eat Place ($$$) or Sherman’s Restaurant ($$) or Tabbs Barbeque ($). In Rolling Fork visit Mariachi Mexican Restaurant or Chuck’s Dairy Bar ($).

Day 2
You’ll begin the day with a hearty breakfast at Roy’s Store in order to fuel up for a day of fishing. Once you have fished for the day, you may clean your catch at the provided fish cleaning station and pack them in ice for your trip home.
