
Starting at the Lake Village, AR/Greenville, MS river bridge and ending at the Vicksburg, MS/Delta, LA river bridge, this tour covers 7 days with museums throughout several states. You can shorten this itinerary to best meet the number of days you have to visit the area.

You might fly in to Little Rock, Arkansas and rent a car and roam around Arkansas for a few days on your own. As you leave Lake Village, AR and cross the Mississippi River Bridge over to Greenville, MS you will begin the museum tour. Please note the beautiful river bridge as you cross it. Completed in 2010, it is the longest cable-stayed bridge span on the Mississippi River and fourth longest in the nation.

Day 1
Make a reservation at the Greenville Inn and Suites (the former historic Levee Board Building) at the foot of the levee at 211 South Walnut Street in downtown Greenville. Have dinner at world famous Does Eat Place at 502 Nelson Street.
Day 2
Begin your tour at the Greenville History Museum at 409 Washington Avenue. Visit the Old #1 Firehouse Museum located one street over at 230 Main Street. You can walk back to Washington Ave. for lunch at Jim’s Cafe, a popular locals’ place, the Butcher Shop or Downtown Grill.
That afternoon drive down to 341 Main to the William Alexander Percy Memorial Library to visit the Delta Writers’ Exhibit. Legend has it that Greenville produced so many notable writers because of its brown water. Cross the street to 504 Main to visit the “Century of History” Hebrew Union Temple and Museum to see the rich Jewish history of Greenville. Return to your hotel for a rest and then dinner at Sherman’s on South Main.
Day 3
This morning visit the 1927 Flood Museum located downtown at 118 S. Hinds Street. This historical flood inundated the Delta and led to the Mississippi Levee system as we know it now. Next visit the art gallery at E.E. Bass Cultural Arts Center located at 323 S. Main. While there you might enjoy a ride on the beautifully restored Armitage-Herschell Carousel. As\ you travel south on Main you will see the historic Greenville Cemetery that contains the statue “The Patriot.” About one mile further south you can enjoy lunch at one of several eateries, Gino’s, Sherman’s, or Main Street Market and Deli. The original Steinmart began in downtown Greenville (now a greenspace with an historical marker). Have supper at one of the great restaurants you’ve not been able to get to yet!
Day 4
Visit the Greenville Air Force Base Museum at the Mid Delta Regional Airport. The base opened for training in 1941 and instructed thousands of US airmen and women in BT-13A, T-33, T28 and U-2 aircraft from the darkest days of WWII through the Cold War. Grab a snack in the airport lunchroom, then head to Winterville Indian Mounds and Museum located at 2415 Highway 1 North. A National Historic Landmark, the Indian Mounds at Winterville constitute one of North America’s most significant pre-Columbian archeological sites.
Day 5
Leland, MS located 9 miles east of Greenville is home to the Jim Henson (Kermit the Frog) Delta Boyhood Exhibit situated on the banks of Deer Creek at 206 Broad Street. While in Leland, visit the Highway 61 Blues Museum located at 3007 N. Broad Street. There is a very pretty drive along either side of Deer Creek where you can admire beautiful homes. If you are lucky enough to be here during the Christmas season, you will enjoy many lighted floats along the creek. Lunch at Cicero’s located at 4857 Old Leland Road just across the street from the Stoneville Experiment Station, an agricultural research and development complex. (Dinner options in Leland include Cicero’s and Lillo’s)
Day 6
Check out of hotel. Travel 40 miles south to Rolling Fork, MS. Visit the Rolling Fork Visitor’s Center and Museum located at 380 Walnut Street. Pick up a copy of “Your Guide to a Carved Bear Hunt” and travel our streets in search of the larger-than-life chainsaw carved bears. Enjoy also the public art murals, the Blues Cabin, Muddy Waters Blues Trail Marker, Muddy Waters Gazebo, shopping and art galleries all within walking distance from the historic courthouse square. Lunch in town at Mariachi Mexican Restaurant or Chuck’s Dairy Bar located on Highway 61. After lunch head south on Highway 61 to historic Vicksburg, MS (40 miles) to visit the Lower Mississippi River Museum on Washington Street. You might have dinner at Rusty’s River Front Grill just across the street at 901 Washington (601-638-2030) Stay in one of the many B&B’s available in town. We like Anchuca Historic Mansion and Inn (circa 1830) located at 1010 First East St.
Day 7
Take a tour of the Vicksburg National Military Park beginning at the Welcome Center located on Clay Street. This is the most monumented military park, as well as the largest National Military Cemetery of Union dead in the U.S. Cross the I-20 Mississippi River Bridge from Vicksburg, MS to Delta, LA. As you cross this bridge you will have a final view of the Mighty Mississippi River and a view of the Old Bridge that parallels this bridge to the north.
