This Delightful Rolling Fork Shop Has It All

June 20, 2019

Green Apple LogoOpen the door and walk into Green Apple and you’ll see shelves with carefully arranged handmade pottery, brightly colored children’s clothing hanging from the walls, delicious gourmet snacks, lush green plants, and so much more.

It’s a little like walking into your favorite Aunt’s house, that cozy, warm feeling of being welcomed and the secret excitement of getting to explore all of the hidden corners.

The Rolling Fork Roots of The Green Apple

The original store was established in downtown Rolling Fork in 1978 by Ruth Ann Darnell. Back then, it was The Green Apple Hobby Shop which offered custom framing, crafting materials, and unique gifts.

When Ruth Ann heard the Rolling Fork Flower Shop was closing in 2009, she purchased their building and expanded into the larger space and added floral design to the store’s offerings.

Ruth Ann’s daughter, Lacy Hankins and friend, Amanda Rutherford, worked at the store. They kept the store running after Ruth Ann retired in 2016.

A New Green Apple

In April 2017, tragedy struck when Green Apple burned. It was a tough time, but Lacy and Amanda realized that the Rolling Fork community needed the shop. They joined together to rebuild it and made it their own, continuing with floral designs and current home décor fashions. The new Green Apple Gifts was opened in September of that same year.

The shop florist Michelle Boykin creates stunning floral designs for weddings, anniversaries, special occasions, funerals and more.

“We could not function without Michelle, who creates beautiful arrangements,” say Hankins and Rutherford.

Flowers and live plants are in demand year-round and Green Apple is the only florist shop within 45 miles of Rolling Fork. From beautiful arrangements and wreaths to live plants, Boykin’s designs put a smile on the faces of Rolling Fork residents.

Green Apple InventoryHankins and Rutherford attend Market each year to keep up with trends in fashion and décor for their customers, as well as provide a unique assortment of gifts and those special items that cannot be found “just anywhere.”

Green Apple is known for its exceptional customer service. The owners will go out of their way to help you. If they don’t have a specific gift in stock, they will find it for you. It’s not unusual for the folks at Green Apple to go above and beyond for their customers, such as the time Boykin went to a customer’s home to place plants in the pots on their porch. If you bring in your pot, they might just arrange the plants for you!

Stop On In & Discover Something Special

So, go on, visit Green Apple the next time you need that special something. You’ll be met with friendly smiling faces to greet you and help you pick out that perfect something for your mom, your best friend, or the next baby shower.

The store features a bridal registry, gift items, Peter’s Pottery, children’s clothing, jewelry, purses, gifts and shoes as well as some women’s and men’s apparel, floral designs, plants, and more.

Green Apple is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Visit Green Apple located at 419 Walnut Street in Rolling Fork and treat yourself or someone else to a fun, unique gift.
